Romantik Jugendstilhotel Bellevue |
 |
|
Traben-Trarbach / Moselle
/ Germany |
|
Situated between
Trier
and
Koblenz,
it has always been one of the top addresses on the
Moselle. |
|
Around the turn of
the century Traben-Trarbach was the second
largest wine-trading area in Europe. The legendary "Clauss-Feist"
Hotel, designed by the wellknown Berlin
architect, Professor Bruno Möring, was built by
Richard Feist in 1903. |
Over the following
decades it was to become
one of the most prominent hotels on the
Moselle,
frequented by celebrities of the early 20th century, such as Baron von
Thyssen, Count von Anhalt,
Baron von Richthofen, well known as red Baron
and the famous german actor, Heinz
Rühmann. |
 |
In 1987 the hotel,
up until then run in the family tradition, was taken over by René
Pièrre Marquigny and
was painstakingly restored to it's former glory and extended until 1989.
Your personal host, Matthias Ganter, has been
the director of the Rema Bellevue Art Nouveau
Hotel since 1992. |
| |
|
Belle
epoque, the
Moselle
way or: the way art nouveau came to Traben-Trarbach. |
| |
|
At the turn of the
19th into the 20th century was the second largest
winetrading city after Bordeaux. Due to being a protestant enclave
within a catholic surrounding there was a very close connection with the
Prussian government in Potsdam, this being the utmost condition for a
profitable winetrade.
Export to the European neighbours and to overseas started. Great wealth and
richness are the basis for vivid building activity in grand civic style. |
 |
| |
At the turn of the
century both parts of the city were to be connected by a bridge.
For this purpose an architecture competition was offered, which had been won
by nobody less than Professor Bruno Möhring. |
| |
|
In
Traben-Trarbach he discovers his love for the
Moselle
region and he gets to know the famous wine merchants.
Soon after he gets his second mandate: the rebuilding of the completely
burnt down hotel "Claus Feist" (today
"Bellevue"). A tour through the interior of the hotel shows the multiple
capabilities of Bruno Möhring |
 |
| |
|
With his love for
detail and his ability to create something completely new, every house or
building built by him is absolutely unique. |
| |
|
Based on the main
thought of the concerned building Möhring plans
his creations to the smallest details e.g. doorplates, lamps, the outlook of
the fireplaces or aerial grating. |
| |
|
|
In the following
years Möhring gets order after order. After his
plans impressing and unique buildings such as the Villa
Breucker, the wine cellars of Julius Kaiser or the Villa
Huesgen originate. |
