Bad Wiessee was officially recognized as a “spa and resort” in 1922, and the town’s reputation as a center of healing has since grown far and wide, thanks to natural springs that contain iodine, sulfur and fluoride salts in the highest concentrations found anywhere in Germany, or even most of Europe for that matter. | Many towns in the region, such as Kreuth, Rottach-Egern, Tegernsee, Bayrischzell and Schliersee, have also earned the official title of heilklimatischer Kurort (health resort with a salubrious climate). No wonder, then, that the area offers groups so many health-travel options. In fact, in a European first, an entire network called Gesundes Land (Healthy Land), which consists of doctors, clinics, hotels, institutes and health centers, has been set up near Tegernsee, in a concerted effort to better cater to individual health and well being. You can book any type of health and fitness service, or activity, through the network - including group or individualized cure programs, check-ups, nutrition counseling, weight-loss programs, yoga and bath/spa treatments. One network member, the Jodschwefelbad in Bad Wiessee, is home to Germany’s most concentrated healing iodine-sulfur spring. |

| A large number of hotels in the region also have an exquisite wellness offering and their in-house facilities leave nothing to be desired. Be it an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool or a variety of different saunas and tanning solariums, they offer pure relaxation after a strenuous seminar, for example. And the German Ski Federation has set up Nordic Activites Centers in Schliersee and Bayrischzell, where visitors can book Nordic walking, Nordic cruising and cross-country skiing courses with certified trainers to ensure proper technique. Or, you may wish to head out on the homologated Nordic walking paths on your own, where you can discover the beautiful landscape around lakes Tegernsee and Schliersee. | |
| Expert-guided tours are also available for those who would like to find out more about the many healing herbs that grow wild throughout the region. In northern Miesbach County lies Otterfing, a town known as Bavaria’s Lindendorf (linden-tree village), where visitors can take a respite under the ancient trees and enjoy the aroma of their healing blossoms.
